Is gold still fashionable for luxury watches?

Since we celebrated the millennial milestone, steel has become the metal of choice for many buyers in the luxury watch industry. Stainless steel sports watches such as the fake Rolex Submariner and Daytona have replaced the demand for precious metal materials such as gold and platinum. This change could be due to several factors, including a spike in the price of gold or a possible decline in the popularity of gold. Therefore, the question I wish to answer is …… Are gold watches still fashionable?
Considering these days, there isn’t an easy answer. Fashion trends are constantly changing. But suppose we were to look at the current market trends, then according to the 2016/2017 Swiss Watch Industry Federation/FH report. In that case, statistics indicate that gold and precious metal watch sales have fallen sharply by about 25%.
Market demand is just as significant, if not more so, than the value of the metals used in watches. Luxury retailers like Patek Philippe create a surplus of luxury watches made of precious metals like gold for the wealthy, the top end of their target market. However, there are so many of these watches that demand has been unable to keep up. Another explanation for the lack of demand for gold watches and changing buying habits can be attributed to the economy. We’re not economists, so we can’t delve too deeply into this aspect of things, but it’s certainly something worth keeping in mind.
One of the best ways to see what’s popular is to look at what the major luxury watch brands are making and selling. Replica Rolex is probably the only brand with no problem with gold-of-sale watches. Some of its most popular gold pieces include the now-discontinued Day-Date II and Day-Date 40’s, not to mention gold sports watches like the Submariners, which are still very popular today. It seems that replica Rolex Daytona follows its principles, no matter how familiar the trends and buying habits are among the top luxury brands, but why?
In the end, it all comes down to your taste. However, if we focus on what the watch market and trends say, then the answer may lean more towards no. Newer and more modern metals and materials seem to overtake gold, but trends can change, and opinions differ. If there is a gold watch that you like, then pull out your wallet and buy it!
